Only competitors who have a permanent disability that significantly reduces their mobility are eligible to be entered for the P class.
Starting in 2025, all P Class athletes will need to be assessed in person to gain or renew their classification status. Old P class eligibility certificates will remain valid until their current end date or until 1st October 2027, whichever is sooner.
Competitors for the P class shall submit to the IOF, at least 3 months before the championship, a completed eligibility form accompanied with required documents. Three different forms are available for impairments that are predominantly cardiac or cardiopulmonary (CP), mobility (MI) or neurological (NI). After initial approval of the paperwork by the IOF TrailO Classifiers, an appointment for an in-person classification assessment will be made. Athletes must be able to communicate in English or bring a team official or interpreter for the classification session.
In 2025, in-person assessments will be offered at 3 events (at Falco Cup in Lithuania, 7/8 June 2025; at Siben TrailO Cup in Italy, 5-6 July 2025 and at WTOC in Hungary, 25/26 August).
In 2026, assessments will be offered at 5 events, details to be confirmed.
If you have any questions, please contact the IOF ([email protected]) or TrailO classifier Russ Myer ([email protected]) before starting the application process.
