The purpose of the Young Leaders Academy (YLA) is to enable young orienteers aged 16-25 to develop their talent and competencies to developing orienteering. It is also an opportunity to network and make new friends from the global orienteering community.
Content
- During the day: “5 Days Italy” competitions and action learning through support to the organizers in different roles/functional areas before or after your own race
- Late afternoon/evening: Lectures and workshops at the Event Centre/accommodation that help to improve your personal orienteering, organization and coaching skills
Accommodation
The recidencehotel “Ambiez” (apartments) has a central location when it comes to the arenas of “5 Days Italy”. Lectures and workshops will take place at the event centre, Pala Campiglio, of www.5daysitaly.it/ and the recidence hotel.

Participation fee and other costs
The participation fee for YLA is differentiated based on the membership fee groups for the national federations in the IOF. Click here to see the fee group for each national federation (column 2).
- Membership fee group 1-3: 600 EUR participation fee per person
- Membership fee group 4-7: 400 EUR participation fee per person
- Membership fee group 8-10: 300 EUR participation fee per person
- Ukraine: 300 EUR participation fee per person
The participation fee covers eight nights of accommodation, food, entry fee for all stages of “5 Days Italy”, transportation to/from stages (when not walking distance), lectures, workshops and a T-shirt for YLA participants.
The participation fee must be paid to the IOF after selection of participants, either with ordinary bank transfer (see under payment details below) or with PayPal (more information here). Please note that you should not pay the participation fee until you receive confirmation from IOF that you are selected to be among the participants in 2025.
Transportation to and from YLA is not included in the participation fee and must be organized separately. Please contact gdc@orienteering.org if you need guidance on transportation options or check here.
Requirements
- Age: 16 – 25
- Ability to successfully finish an orienteering competition
- Good English skills
- Maximum of three participants per country/national federation
Application
You should apply with a short video of one minute in English showing:
- 30” your motivation (What is your motivation??)
- 30” freestyle (What else is important?)
The video or a link to your video must be sent by e-mail to gdc@orienteering.org including name, gender, home-country, email and year/date of birth.
Application: Ongoing but latest before January 13, 2025.
Maximum 26 (and 3 per nation) can participate.
