The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) continues to migrate into the new .sport domain. The next step is moving our default email domain to .sport. This will take effect on the 30th April 2020. Emails sent to the old .org domain will still be delivered.
Example:
Old email: david.wastlund@orienteering.org
New email: david.wastlund@orienteering.sport
Please make sure that your email addresses (contacts) to IOF contacts gets updated properly. Normally, the email software will manage this change without disturbance but if you believe you do not get emails from IOF anymore, please check your spam or junk mail folders.
In early 2019, the IOF, started to implement the .sport domain with the re-launch of our federation website, orienteering.sport. We still have some areas to migrate which will be done this year, see below:

About .sport
The .sport domain is managed by the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and was released in late 2018.
The .sport Internet extension is for the sports community. This means that everyone who ‘plays by the rules’ is included, and also means that there are rules to protect legitimate interests, including the concerns of brands, sponsors, and the collective community.
Registrations of domain names ending in .sport will be categorized. Key groups of .sport domain registrants include:
- Federations
- Sport organisations or governing bodies
- Clubs and teams
- Cities and public authorities
- Athletes and practitioners
- Sport organisers
- Event sponsors
- Sport brands and corporate partners
- Sports media
- Sports facilities

About GAISF
IOF is a member of GAISF. GAISF is the Global Association of International Sports Federations, an umbrella body composed of autonomous and independent International Sports Federations and other international sport and event related organisations. The Mission of GAISF is to serve, represent, promote and protect the common interests of its’s Members and to help them achieve their global objectives.
GAISF Members are divided into four groups which represents the pyramid of Olympic sport::
- The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF)
- The Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF), for those IFs that are on the Olympic summer and winter programmes respectively.
- The Association of Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF) include IFs that are recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but not on the Olympic Programme
- The Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport (AIMS) is for those sports within GAISF that are not yet in any of the three previous groupings.
IOF is a member of the The Association of Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF) that include International Federations that are recognised by the IOC but not on the Olympic Programme. IOF CEO/Secretary General, Tom Hollowell, is a member of the ARISF board since 2019.
