World MTBO Championships: Swiss success in Austria

Swiss rider Simon Braendli produced his best form ever to win the men’s gold in the Middle Distance race in Austria today. Russian Olga Shipolova Vinogradova was the women’s race winner.

There were big celebrations in the Swiss team when the final challenger to Braendli’s time failed to make the breakthrough. Nearest to it was Baptiste Fuchs, France, 1.04 down. Grigory Medvedev, Russia took the bronze medal. For the second day running there was no medal for the Czech Republic in the men’s race.

Olga Shipolova Vinogradova made up for her disappointment yesterday, completing a victory by almost 2 minutes over the Czech rider Martina Tichovska, with her compatriot Veronika Kubinova finishing as bronze medallist. The British rider Clare Dallimore was back in form, taking fourth place.

Tomorrow it is the Relay. The races can be followed live on www.wmtboc2018.at.
