WMOC Long: 12 golds for Finland on final day

World Masters Orienteering Championships 2024 came to an end on Friday, when the Long distance concluded the WMOC-week in Finland.

The athletes competed west of Turku in the Finnish archipelagoes in relatively open and rocky terrain.

That suited the home nation well, as Finland was the most successful nation with 12 golds on Friday. Sweden wasn’t far behind with nine golds, Switzerland claimed two while Norway and USA got one gold each.

Five athletes made the WMOC-hattrick – sweeping all three golds from Sprint, Middle and Long in their class: Merja Rantanen, FIN (W40), Simone Niggli, SUI (W45), Yvonne Gunnell, FIN (W50), Manu Mutka, FIN (M50),) and Sole Nieminen, FIN (W95)
