The greatest international orienteering events will now be accessible to a significantly larger audience. The International Orienteering Federation, IOF, has entered a partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the world’s leading alliance for public service media.
IOF has a long tradition of collaborating with National Broadcasters in several countries that are also EBU Members. With the agreement IOF and the EBU enter into a new era, where IOF also will deliver live broadcasts and highlights packages to the EBU. Content from World Orienteering Championships, European Orienteering Championships and the Orienteering World Cup will be made available on its new digital streaming platform: eurovisionsport.com.
The platform was launched in February 2024 and is the online home for the EBU’s major Sports TV-rights, complementing the coverage provided by its public service media members. All content on eurovisionsport.com is available for free.
Already this weekend the platform will feature highlights from the Orienteering World Cup races in Olten, Switzerland to a worldwide audience. This cooperation will continue throughout the complete Orienteering Season 2024 and will include commentary in multiple languages.
The World Orienteering Championships 2024 is taking place in Edinburgh, Scotland from July 12-16 and will be broadcasted live to viewers on eurovisionsport.com in France, Germany and the UK. On top of that, highlights will be distributed to a worldwide audience.
“We have been working continuously for several years to improve the quality of our TV broadcasts with drones, running cameramen, GPS tracking and so on, which is appreciated by the audience and has contributed to increased viewing figures for our TV partners.
The agreement with the EBU is a further proof that our sport is becoming more and more popular all over the world and we are really pleased to been able to secure live coverage in major markets like France, Germany and UK thanks to Eurovision Sport” says Henrik Eliasson, CEO of the International Orienteering Federation.
More than 10 countries will show live free coverage on either eurovisionsport.com or on TV during the 2024 Orienteering season. All competitions can also be seen live all over the world on the International Orienteering Federation’s own Pay Per view TV platform, IOF TV.
