The 1st International Conference on Orienteering in Scientific Research and Higher Education (O-Conference 2026) will be organised by Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden in the summer of 2026.
The dates for the conference are 18-19 July and are coordinated with the traditional stage race O-ringen near Gothenburg, which makes it possible to combine participation in both places. This offers participants a rare opportunity to combine professional exchange with personal passion — discussing theory one day and applying it in the forest the next.
A unique meeting of science and sport
The programme will feature invited keynote speakers alongside an open call for abstracts, creating space for both established researchers and emerging scholars.
The conference seeks to establish an international forum where ideas, methods, and results can be exchanged across disciplines — from machine perception and navigation to pedagogy, mapping, performance analysis, and ecological thinking.
Call for Abstracts
Researchers, academics, practitioners, and industry partners are invited to contribute to the first international forum dedicated to orienteering-driven science, education, and innovation. Early career researchers and research students are especially encouraged to submit.
Contributions may be theoretical or empirical, based on classroom pilots or interdisciplinary collaborations. Previously presented work is welcome if adapted to this community. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 15 April 2026.
