It’s time to mark the calendar. The world’s largest orienteering event, World Orienteering Week takes place from May 17th to 25th in 2025.
Here orienteering clubs, schools and organisations have a chance to set up an orienteering event with tools and materials from the International Orienteering Federation and join the worldwide orienteering festivities.
The event was first organized in 2016 as World Orienteering Day and has since brought together hundreds of thousands of people who try their hand at orienteering all over the world in the same days.
“One of the great things about World Orienteering Week is that any activity counts. You are free to use your imagination to market and practice the sport in new ways, to put on a very simple event or to simply organise what is familiar and comfortable. Indoor, outdoor, sprints, maze, youth, elite, masters, whatever; all events count equally. Have fun with it and try crazy ideas!, Tom Hollowell, president of the International Orienteering Federation says.
More than 120.000 people participated in the 2024 in close to 1000 events in 76 different nations during World Orienteering Week this year.
And the aim is once again to bring together thousands of people who can experience the joys of chasing controls and gathering for orienteering.
“My personal goal is to organise or participate in a WOW activity every day from May 17th to 25th, please join me!” says Tom Hollowell.
