Bansko in the southwest corner of the country will be the host city for the championships and for the two forest distances, participants can expect quite hilly courses in the terrains close to the Pirin mountain range, while the sprint looks set to be fast and flat.
The neighboring terrains were also used for the 2024 FISU World University Championships.
Bulgaria is hosting an impressive number of international events in recent years and has, for example, hosted the EYOC as recently as 2018 and 2023.
WMOC in Czechia
While some of the youngest orienteering athletes head to Bulgaria, the slightly older athletes can turn their compass towards Czechia the following year.
In 2029, the World Masters Orienteering Championships will be held in Mariánské Lázně in western Czechia.

The 2025 version of WMOC was held in Girona, Spain.
This is the second time in history that Czechia has hosted the WMOC. The first time was in Nový Bor in 1998.
