In April, the 2026 Orienteering World Cup kicks off in the scenic surroundings of Locarno–Ascona in southern Switzerland, hosting round 1 of the season.
Set on the shores of Lago Maggiore, the region offers a unique blend of Swiss precision and Mediterranean atmosphere, with narrow streets, open piazzas and technically demanding urban terrain that will challenge the world’s best sprint orienteers.
Over three days, athletes will compete in all sprint disciplines: Sprint, Sprint Relay and Knock-Out Sprint. The competitions take place in fast-paced and varied environments, where quick decision-making, precise navigation and high running speed are key to success.
The organizers promise exciting courses with a mix of complex route choices, technical sections and spectator-friendly arenas, setting the stage for an intense and entertaining start to the World Cup season.
