European MTBO Championships: Czech and Russian wins in Middle Distance

The Russian Olga Shipilova Vinogradova and the Czech Krystof Bogar both enjoyed convincing wins in the Middle race in Hungary today.

The Russian was 1.29 faster on the 17.8 km course than a surprise silver medalist: the British rider Clare Dallimore pulled out all the stops to take a clear second place, 38 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Svetlana Poverina, Russia. In this race Veronika Kubinova, Czech Republic missed a medal by just one second.

Krystof Bogar had the best possible outcome after his retirement from the Long race yesterday, posting a victory by 2.38 over Russia’s Ruslan Gritsan. The Frenchman Baptiste Fuchs took the bronze medal on the 21.1 km course with 300 m climb, with yesterday’s winner Vojtech Ludvik just two seconds slower.

In the Junior Championships, Thomas Steinthal, Denmark completed a clean sweep of the individual gold medals, this time winning by 1.09. Women’s winner was the Russian Uliana Sukholovskaya.

Tomorrow is the last day of the Championships – Relay day.
