The IOF Council has decided to extend the period that counts towards the ‘top 5’ World Ranking Events that make up an athlete’s World Ranking score.
All IOF World Ranking Events were cancelled from the 17th of March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The WRE season 2020 has opened up again, with events scheduled from the 1st of August. To be able to make a fair calculation and compensate for the 4,5 months without WREs 2020, the IOF Council has decided to prolong the counting period to up to 34 months (instead of the standard 24).
The guiding principle in the period of extension is that:
- All WREs in 2020 will be included in the World Ranking scheme despite the “lost” months between March 17 and August 1.
- There shall always be 7-8 counting Major Events within the World Ranking Period for Foot Orienteering.
- The 2021 season will be a normal season. If the 2021 season is still affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, Council will consider further prolongation.
On the IOF World Ranking page you can see the changes in counting months for all four disciplines during the whole transition period. The IOF World Ranking scheme returns to standard counting months on 1st Jan 2022 for MTBO, July 1st 2022 for SkiO and Jan 1st 2023 for FootO and TrailO.
