World Masters Orienteering Championships 2025 kick off in Girona

The city of Girona in Spain is set to welcome orienteering enthusiasts from around the globe as the World Masters Orienteering Championships (WMOC) 2025 officially begin this Saturday, August 9.

More than 2300 athletes aged 35 and over arriving from 47 countries, the historic Catalan city will become the epicenter of international masters-level orienteering for the next week.

This year’s championships promise an exciting mix of urban and forest terrains, offering high-quality orienteering challenges and . The competition program includes Sprint, Middle, and Long distance events, with qualification and final races taking place across diverse and scenic locations in and around Girona.

First, the sprint qualification takes place on Saturday morning before the opening ceremony takes over later in the day.

The sprint final happens in Girona on Sunday and after a rest day, the championships move into the Catalan forests for the forest qualification, which decides the athletes level for the Middle and Long distance finals later in the week.

This is the second time in history that Spain has hosted WMOC. The first time was in 1996 in Murcia.
