Szczecin ready to host EYOC this weekend

More than 400 of the most talented young orienteers in Europe meet in Szczecin, Poland this weekend for the 2024 European Youth Orienteering Championships.

The athletes compete in four classes W16, M16, W18 and M18 and three disciplines await: Long, Sprint and Relay.

The forest terrain in northwestern Poland is rather hilly with eg. 280 – 420 meters to climb on Saturdays long distance and has varied visibility and runnability due to undergrowth.

Sunday’s sprint takes place in central Szczecin.

Finland won impressive five golds at last year’s EYOC in Bulgaria, where athletes from Switzerland, Czechia, Norway, France and Hungary also made it to the top of the podium.

However, Switzerland won the Teams competition ahead of Finland.

All three races from Poland can be followed in IOF LIVE through live results.
