Swedish broadcaster SVT acquires TV-rights for another three years

Swedes will have great opportunities to follow orienteering on the highest level in the years to come, as national broadcaster SVT has acquired the rights for international orienteering for another three years.

Orienteering broadcasts on SVT has had great viewing figures as hundreds of thousands tune in to the competitions to follow the Swedish national team. They can all look forward to watching World Orienteering Championships, European Orienteering Championships and the Orienteering World Cup from 2024 – 2026.

“Orienteering has established itself as a TV sport, and this is not least shown by our excellent viewing figures on SVT. The fact that SVT will continue to broadcast the WC, EC and World Cup is extremely gratifying for us, the sport and not least all viewers, says Susanne Maarup, Managing Director in Swedish Orienteering Federation.

“Orienteering has developed its productions a lot in recent years and is now a really strong TV sport. Sweden has several world stars, led by Tove Alexandersson, and the broadcasts on SVT are highly appreciated by the audience,” says Max Bursell, director of sports at SVT.

“IOF is very pleased to be able to prolong the multi-year agreement with SVT for another 3 years. Sweden is a key market for a wide reach of orienteering, and we have an excellent cooperation with SVT and the Swedish Orienteering Federation. Already this year – in the first year of the new agreement – we will be able to show orienteering in SVT 15 times, which is another milestone we are proud of,” says IOF’s CEO, Henrik Eliasson.
