The minutes of the latest IOF Council meeting (12 June 2020) have been published.
Here is a short summary of the most important decisions and topics:
* Impact of the Coronavirus on the IOF – members federations
The IOF Office has consulted with Member Federations regarding the situation on a national level. In total 22 members had answered prior to the meeting. A summary of these answers will be published in a separate article.
* Other events 2021
European Trail Orienteering Championships 2020 – Council approved the dates requested by the organiser in Finland (May 12-16 2021)
Asian Junior and Youth Orienteering Championships 2021 – The council appointed Hong Kong as organisers of AsJYOC 2021.
*Event schedule 2022
Asian Orienteering Championships 2022 – Council appointed Korea as organisers of the AsOC 2022.
European Orienteering Championships 2022 – Council approved the dates proposed by the organiser in Estonia as 3-7 August 2022. More information about EOC and the World Cup Season 2022 will be published in a separate news article.
*Event schedule 2023
World MTB Orienteering Championships 2023 – Council appointed Czech Republic as organisers of the WMTBOC 2023.
* Restart of WRE competitions
Council discussed the restarting of World Ranking Events (WRE) after the current date of August 1, 2020. A decision about when restarting WREs will be taken at the Council meeting on the 9th of July after further consulting with the discipline commissions.
* World Orienteering Day 2021
Council approved 19-25 May 2021 as the dates of World Orienteering Day 2021.
* “Virtual” World Orienteering Championships
A concept for a “virtual” World Orienteering Championships was discussed and IOF Office was tasked to move forward with development of the concept, framework and rules for an initial event later in 2020. More information will be published in a separate article.
