Bogar wins second gold at WMTBOC, as Saarinen crushes women’s sprint

Czechia’s Krystof Bogar won his second gold medal and fourth in total at World Orienteering Mountain Bike Championships 2022, when the riders raced the Sprint distance in Falun.

After 7,7 kilometers of racing, Bogar was two seconds ahead of compatriot Vojtech Stransky and with Estonia’s Lauri Malsroos finishing third – 13 seconds further behind.

Bogar has been showing impressive form in Sweden, winning the opening Middle Distance on Friday, then bronze in the Relay, silver on the Long before being crowned world champion again at today’s Sprint.

Henna Saarinen (FIN) was in a league of ther own in the women’s Sprint and won by incredible 57 seconds after 6,4 kilometers on the bike. That’s her second WMTBOC Sprint gold, as she won the 2018 Sprint in Austria as well.

Middle distance world champion Nikoline Splittorff (DEN) took silver and fellow Dane Camilla Søgaard won bronze – her fourth medal at the championships.

Another medal streak was continued in W20, where Kaarina Nurminen keeps on sweeping the gold medals – and won her third after three individual races. The margin was more than a minute ahead of compatriots Silja Ylihietanen and Aino Kankaapaa.

Felix Silver (SWE) won his second gold medal on home soil in M20, where Flurin Schnyder (SUI) and Matej Tuma (CZE) joined him on the podium.
