Amended regulations for IOF Independent Athlete Status

IOF Council has amended the regulations for IOF Independent Athlete Status which opens up for independent athlete participation in World Ranking Events, and extended the current application deadline to November 30th.

The independent athlete system provide san opening for participation by individual athletes from countries where there is currently no IOF member federation. The approved amendments include a reduction in the application fee from 50€ to 30€ for this group, it can be granted for three years and can be applied for and granted at any time during the calendar year.

The independent athlete system also provides an opening for participation by individual athletes that are not able to participate in IOF events due to the negative actions of their member federations, which they themselves do not condone. The approved amendments include a reduction in a retrospective criterium related to participation in domestic events from 24 to 6 months.

Following this Council decision, the document “Regulations IOF Independent Athlete Status” has been updated and is available among the rules documents for each discipline. This document also includes a template for athlete declaration  – select applicable discipline and then “Rules”.
