Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Vojtech Kral, Czech Republic are the winners of today’s World Cup Knock-Out Sprint in Laufen, Switzerland. Both also won their Quarter-Final and Semi-Final races.
Alexandersson remains unbeaten in the World Cup so far this year, and won the final with a margin of 9 seconds over Tereza Janosikova, Czech Republic. Janosikova is in her last year as a junior, and like Alexandersson she also won her Quarter- and Semi-Final races. She has won two silver medals in Sprint at Junior World Championships (2017/8) and bronze at Middle distance in Denmark this year. Third place went to Elena Roos, Switzerland, 1 second down on Janosikova.
Victory again for Tove Alexandersson
This was an impressive performance from 31-year-old Vojtech Kral, who has won Sprint races at World Cup level twice before. He won today’s Final by just 2 seconds over yesterday’s Middle distance winner Joey Hadorn, Switzerland. Ralph Street, Great Britain was third, four seconds down on the winner. Great Britain had the distinction of having two runners in the Final, but Kris Jones, arguably the faster of the two, made a big mistake at the first control.
Switzerland had another good day, with five Quarter-Final winners in all out of the possible twelve. Mention should also be made of Yannick Michiels, Belgium, who won his Quarter- and Semi-Final races but was just pushed out into fourth place in the Final.
Tomorrow is the last race in this round, the Sprint. Can Tove Alexandersson perhaps be beaten here?
